JOE’S TESTIMONIALS

Joe Mullins has a tremendous amount of knowledge regarding the art of pitching and technique. The way he teaches and breaks down the mechanics of pitching is easy for kids to learn and understand. I enjoy watching my son learn, develop and have fun at each lesson.

Joe Mullins – I’ll start off by saying that there will never be enough words to describe what Joe does and what he can do for your child from injury prevention / rehab and teaching your child proper throwing / pitching mechanics. Just know that what you read on here – there is a ton more I could share about Joe Mullins. I will only scratch the surface.

I first personally met Joe around 2010-11. I had heard about Joe here and there through some coaching clinics I had attended. My son (who is now a Freshman playing baseball @ USC Upstate) started having some shoulder pain while throwing, that continued to get worse. I contacted Joe on his recommendation of seeing an Orthopedic doctor. We saw Dr. McKinley at Guilford Ortho (Dr. McKinley is a great man as well). My son was diagnosed with a separated growth plate in his right shoulder. Through my son’s rehab is where I personally got to know Joe. The knowledge of Joe Mullins that I saw firsthand of the arm/ shoulder / elbow – the workings and the science of how an arm works was beyond anything I had ever seen. Having coached on many levels of baseball over the last 25 years and going to different coaching clinics and talking to other coaches and “so called arm experts” I was just blown away by Joe and his abilities to treat/rehab and teach my son about the workings of his arm and taking care of his arm. It was amazing to see Joe get so detailed and find out that my son’s shoulder problem didn’t start with his shoulder. What I mean by that is there are a lot of things that must happen before a ball can be thrown and there so many other working parts of your body that must function to be able to throw. Through Joe, my son and I learned that his injury was caused by resistance by his lower half of his body. His hips and back were so tight that he was putting too much pressure on his shoulder to compensate for the other areas that weren’t working properly. My son completed the rehab and went back to playing baseball as a Freshman at his high school and then continued to play all summer. My son was doing the exercises that Joe gave him, but probably not like he should have been doing. About 6 months later my son starts having elbow pain, so we go back to the ortho with Joe’s recommendation again. He is diagnosed with little league elbow. The whole rehab process starts all over again and once again Joe determines that other extremities of his body are so tight that his elbow his taking the blunt of the work. This is where we get serious and I have Joe do a full evaluation of my son, pitching/ throwing mechanics, video analysis, a full workout of proper stretching, etc., etc. Once again were blown away by Joe’s knowledge and understanding of not just how the arm works but how everything else (body)must work correctly for the arm to work properly. My son continued to see Joe for routine visits and lessons throughout his high school career to just keep his arm and body in the proper shape and working on his pitching/ throwing mechanics. After working with Joe for about 6 months and getting his body working on the same page as his arm, in that time he gained another 5-mph velocity just by working with Joe.

I can honestly say that without Joe Mullins help my son would not be playing college baseball right now or had the career he did in high school and in legion ball last summer.

My 14-year-old daughter is now seeing Joe for some shoulder issues from playing softball.

I have recommended Joe to a lot of people and of those people that took my advice and took their son to see Joe after having injuries and I can guarantee you that those people would say the same thing, without Joe’s help their sons wouldn’t be playing baseball at the next level either.

I tell the players that play for me now, go see Joe before going to the doctor! I can almost guarantee you that your arm is giving you trouble because it’s something else that’s causing your son or daughters arm to hurt.

My recommendation to you as other parents who are concerned about their child’s “overworked” arm, go see Joe before your arm hurts. We all have and do spend money on lessons for hitting and or pitching – but no one spends the money on preventing injuries. If you care about your child’s wellbeing and if you want them to have a good high school career and hopes of a chance to play at the next level – start letting Joe treat your child now and don’t wait until something goes wrong. I promise you will not be disappointed. Joe is an even better man than he is anything and that says a lot because he is the BEST at what he does.

My son told me this past weekend that he couldn’t wait to get home this summer so he could go see Joe and get stretched out!

Hopefully someone that reads this will take my recommendation seriously and prevents their son or daughter to see Joe before it’s too late!

Joe Mullins has a thorough understanding of the modern pitcher. His research into proper throwing mechanics has ultimately reduced the risk of injury to the baseball pitcher. Joe has identified the potential hazards, and most common flaws most young pitchers face each time they take the mound. Joe’s study of the proper throwing mechanics guides my team’s daily throwing program. In ten years of high school coaching, none of my players have ever been sidelined due to an arm injury.

Where do I begin with Joe Mullins? He has a meticulous eye when it comes to proper pitching mechanics. With this knowledge, Joe is able to detect flawed movement patterns that can predispose an athlete to injury. His ability to clearly convey this knowledge makes him an outstanding teacher and Athletic Trainer. The athlete/patient always comes first and Joe will go the extra mile with his services. Personally, Joe is a great friend and mentor. He has helped me as an Athletic Trainer and, more importantly, as a person.

In working with Joe Mullins, I noticed a significant change with my pitching staff.  We had less elbow and shoulder problems.  My pitchers bounced back quicker from appearance to apperarance.  They were able to throw more pitches and go deeper in games without arm problems.  My pitchers were also able to throw more pitches in a game earlier in the season.

Over the 20 years that I have worked with Joe Mullins I have always been impressed with his professionalism, preparation, and attention to detail. Joe’s ability to integrate his clinical background of rehabilitation with the biomechanics of pitching is unique and will stand the test of time.

I have worked as an orthopedic surgeon with Joe for nearly 20 years and feel especially able to comment on his abilities.  He is in short an expert at both the evaluation and treatment of athletes.  I have been most consistently impressed with his assessments and treatments of throwing athletes.  Basically, Joe is more accurate than an MRI scan in determining the cause of a shoulder problem; it frequently feels like overkill ordering investigative studies when he refers someone in for surgical evaluation.

Sometimes when I have a thrower as a patient and I can’t quite figure out the problem, I’ll have them work with Joe for a while and usually by assessing their mechanics or testing them over time he can get to the root of the problem quite effectively.

I am equally confident in his ability to rehab patients postoperatively.  He is skilled at getting athletes back on the playing field from the operating room in a safe but expeditious manner.

I would like to highly recommend Joe Mullins’ company, ‘Athletic Training and Conditioning, Pitching and Performance Specialists’ to anyone who plays baseball. My son, Brandon Culbreth, a right handed pitcher was referred to Joe by his baseball agent. By the time we left that appointment I was truly amazed at Joe’s knowledge and what he was able to do in a short time with Brandon. He was quickly able to determine possible trouble spots for Brandon which are typical for other pitchers. By Brandon’s next game, I could tell a difference.

I quickly came to realize that Joe had a vast knowledge of sports related biomechanics and athlete’s physiology. He… went on to give me a full biomechanical evaluation which helped to identify a lack of flexibility I had in many areas. I stuck with the daily plan he gave me and within a couple of months achieved dramatic changes in terms of flexibility and overall durability as an athlete. I still stretch everyday as part of my daily routine while playing professional baseball, and feel very fortunate having crossed paths with Joe while playing ball.

Joe Mullins and Garrie Storie at Athletic Training and Conditioning have been a valuable team in keeping our son, Brooks, healthy and ready to take the field the last two plus years. The service they provide is not just rehab and maintenance; they help teach athletes the do’s and dont’s of training their entire body and mind. They’ve not only provided great service but they have also become part of our extended family.

I highly recommend Joe and Garrie if you are looking for the best around in what they do. You will not regret your decision!

When your boy wants to be the best he can be at what he loves doing, you seek out ways to help him. That is exactly what we found at Athletic Training and Conditioning, INC. / Game On Performance with Joe Mullins. He has taught Jake correct body mechanics to protect his arm when pitching and how to be spot on with several different pitches. Joe always works with Jake to make sure his arm is healthy and ready to go for his next tournament. Jake has also done two years of winter workouts with Joe and each new baseball season he comes back even stronger and faster. Thank you , Joe for helping Jake get that much closer to his dream.  You have raised his skill level but also his confidence and for that we are grateful.

Thank you again!

My son ( Matt ) just completed his Freshmen year at Gardner Webb University as a Pitcher and he had some tightness in his shoulder and tricep area  After consulting with many of my contacts in the baseball world, Joe Mullins was the name that came up day after day as the best.

We set up an appointment and I am very pleased to say that Joe lived up to the positive comments that we had heard over and over. He was very positive and communicated very well with my son. His knowledge of how to fix the issues and work in the right areas of stretching was very impressive.

The strength and conditioning side is also a strong suit for Joe. Very pleased and impressed with his abilities and level of service.
