GARRIE’S TESTIMONIALS

Garrie was and still is one of my favorite people to be around. Not only is she someone I could count on on the sidelines of all games, but someone I knew I could go to whenever I needed her.

Garrie and I got super close when I had my concussion my freshman year of high school. Her encouragement during all of those concussion tests kept me hopeful and excited to return back to the field. I never questioned her authority. I knew every time I went to Garrie with whatever was nagging me, she knew exactly what to do without question.

One of my favorite memories with her was during a soccer game, our team was in double overtime after a huge comeback. I was sprinting in the box to get a cross from one of my teammates and both of my calves cramped up so bad it was so painful to stretch out. I will never forget Garrie walking on to the field giving me a look of “why aren’t you hydrated enough?” And I remember it being so funny, because she was so right. Garrie always cared about getting us back on the field ASAP, but more importantly making sure we were 100% healthy instead of 95%, no matter how long that took.

I love Garrie because she is one of the reasons I am where I am today as a college athlete, and I know without her I would’ve never been able to get this far.

I had the pleasure of working with Garrie Storie for almost a decade while coaching Girls Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field. As we grew our program in both participation numbers and workload, Garrie was a important stakeholder and key ingredient to the success that followed.

The ever-changing variables of stresses, from training on the track, to weight room routines, to supplemental plyometrics, to growing bodies, left many of our athletes needing care and attention to discern the differences between fatigue and the onset of injury. Garrie could be counted on to asses bio-mechanical imbalances, weak muscle groupings, and other factors that might keep our athletes from achieving peak performance. She always took the time to work with the athletes as individuals, leaving me confident that her prescribed rehabilitation or prevention recommendations were exactly what that individual needed. She was always able to describe what was going on with the athlete and what steps were necessary to correct the issues. She was also able to empower each athlete to take control of her rehab, giving them ownership of their repair and prevention, and teaching them how to communicate their gains and setbacks along the way.

It is never easy for an athlete to be held out of practice or competition, especially the most competitive of the sport. Garrie always made our athletes feel, however, that their rehab and prevention was just another part of the process to get them ready to preform at the key time of the year: Championship Season. When that time finally came, our roster was full and healthy. Our athletes performed without pain, and they racked up medals and trophies over the years. Any one of them who had to spend time with Garrie along the way was quick to credit her with making sure they were ready when it was “Trophy Time.” Garrie, in turn, celebrated each of their success as well; she was truly a part of our team and success. Looking back on those years of growth in our program, I am sure we could not have done it without her.

I have the pleasure of working with Garrie Storie for years.  We collaborated on the development and implementation of ACS Concussion Management Plan and she continues to be a vital resource for myself, athletic directors, student athletes and their families.

Garrie takes her role very seriously and is a strong advocate for student athletes.  Her knowledge of sports injury and rehabilitation is top notch!

She will always do what is right and best for her “patient”.

During my last 3 years of coaching varsity track at Harrisonburg High School before retiring I had the pleasure of working with Garrie Storie.
When you have a team of over 100 boys and girls it is imperative to have a strong support system within the athletic training department.  I found this with Garrie.  She cared for all of our team’s injuries, oversaw the home meets, and worked with state officials as we hosted multiple post seasonal championships.  For her it did not matter if the individual was a superstar or someone out to just improve their personal performances, they received the same care.  Because she also encouraged using preventive measures there were very few serious injuries with any of our athletes.

Athletes that work with Garrie Storie are very lucky to have someone of her character and level of expertise in their corner.

I worked with Garrie as the school nurse at our local high school when she was our Athletic Trainer. She gave stellar care to all of our athletes both in a preventative way and care after injuries. She was very protective of overall health in individual students as well as in team health. I loved working with her as I knew she was always a strong advocate for health combined with athletic skills and training. She is a true asset to our community and our young people!

I have known Garrie Storie for several years first when she worked at Asheboro and then at Southwestern Randolph. I always found her to be very knowledgeable and professional as a[n] [athletic] trainer. She really cares about the athletes and works to improve their fitness and to get them back as soon as possible after an injury. She is very personable and loves what she does.

I had a granddaughter that had an injury and the first person I took her to was Garrie. I would highly recommend Garrie for any of your needs after an injury or for exercises to prevent injuries.  She’s just a great person whom I totally trust.

I learned who Garrie was through friends of mine when she was at Asheboro.  When I found out we were going to be getting a new [athletic] trainer at SWR, I knew I wanted Garrie to come out to Cougar Country.  When she did decide to come to us and I got to see her in action, I knew she was an outstanding fit for us.  She has always been knowledgeable and has always done everything she could for our student athletes. from getting our athletes back on the field after minor injuries to rehabbing our athletes after major injuries, she always did an excellent job.  I thank Garrie for everything she did for us at SWR and am excited to see what she can accomplish in the future with all student athletes!

Garrie Storie is quite simply one of the best athletic-trainers I have been privileged to work with in 30 years of being a coach and athletic administrator. She is knowledgeable and more importantly able to implement that knowledge to better the athletes with whom she works. Her expertise within all phases of sports medicine including prevention of initial injuries, maintenance of fitness, and when necessary total rehabilitation of injury. She is results driven while being empathetic and compassionate. I believe that when an athlete comes into her care, they have taken the first step towards the best possible recovery outcome. Garrie has made me a better coach and administrator for my athletes and coaches which is by far the greatest complement I can give.

Joe Mullins and Garrie Storie at Athletic Training and Conditioning have been a valuable team in keeping our son, Brooks, healthy and ready to take the field the last two plus years. The service they provide is not just rehab and maintenance; they help teach athletes the do’s and dont’s of training their entire body and mind. They’ve not only provided great service but they have also become part of our extended family.

I highly recommend Joe and Garrie if you are looking for the best around in what they do. You will not regret your decision!
