Joe Mullins, MEd, LAT, ATC, C-PS

Joe helps athletes move and perform more efficiently. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia in 1992. Joe, a former collegiate baseball pitcher, has dedicated his professional health care career to understanding how pitching injuries occur and, more importantly, what pitchers can do to prepare their bodies to perform in a manner that minimizes injury risks.

Joe has a professional passion for overhead athletes that can be summarized in a quote he made in conversation one day that has since become what he is known for, “I’m just a guy who lost his dream but found purpose instead. Just trying to be a student of pitching and help those who still have the dream.”

Joe has presented numerous seminars throughout the continental US to other health care professionals on the Effective Examination of the Shoulder.

Although Joe is often sought after for his passion for the overhead athlete, his 20+ year background in outpatient rehabilitation encompasses rehabilitation and performance enhancement for lower extremity athletes as well. His clientele ranges from the recreational preadolescent athlete to the professional athlete.

Garrie Storie, MS, LAT, ATC, C-PS

Garrie is a nationally certified athletic trainer and is licensed in the state of North Carolina. She has been certified and licensed in VA and NC since 2002.

Garrie is a native of Boone, NC where she attended Appalachian State University and earned her Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training with a Minor in Exercise Science. Her initial plan, however, was to study to become a physical therapist, but after spending time in the athletic training room at App State as a Division I sprinter, she decided Athletic Training was a better path for her. Prior to settling on a health care career she was an accomplished dancer where she was invited to audition for the North Carolina School of the Arts.

She would later attend James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA where she earned her Master of Science Degree in Athletic Administration while working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. As a graduate assistant athletic trainer she worked with women’s lacrosse and baseball.

Garrie stayed in Harrisonburg, VA for 8 years at a local high school where she was a full time athletic trainer responsible for 28 teams. Most recently she has worked for Randolph Health Athletic Training Services where she has served as the head athletic trainer for both Asheboro High School and Southwestern Randolph High School.

She greatly enjoys the relationships and positive impact she can have with her student athletes and their families. Garrie states, “Some injuries can be very stressful and sometimes devastating to a family. It is the job of an athletic trainer to help the athlete on the field and throughout the entire recovery process. The athletic trainer stays in constant contact with the family, physicians, and other members of the medical team to provide extraordinary care for the student athlete. The athletic trainer sees the student athlete on a sometimes daily basis and this creates a bond that is unlike any other. To see an injured student athlete from the initial injury to their return to the field or court and seeing them smile because they accomplished that goal is amazing.”

Garrie desires to make all student athletes healthy and injury free. She enjoys all sports and wants to make all of the programs she works with as successful as they can possibly be. Athletic Training and Conditioning’s owner Joe Mullins states, “I have known Garrie for nearly ten years. I have watched her dedication to detail and the outcomes she is able to achieve. Her experience as an accomplished dancer gives her an exceptional understanding of the body’s lower extremity biomechanics. Her extensive background in overhead athletics such as softball, volleyball, and baseball along with her experience as a Division I sprinter are a perfect fit with our current clientele and the programs we wish to establish for our female athletes.”

Garrie’s favorite things outside of sports are basically any festive occasion, especially Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Spending time with family and friends are also very important in her life.
