P.I.T.C.H. LAB

What is P. I. T. C. H. Lab?

P. I. T. C. H. Lab is an extension of our signature P.I.T.C.H. Program. P.I.T.C.H. stands for Pitching Instruction, Training and Conditioning, and Healthcare for the baseball pitcher. The P.I.T.C.H. Lab is a dedicated area used to analyze a pitcher’s ability to move. In the P.I.T.C.H. Lab a pitcher is taken through a battery of movement assessments to quantify and identify inefficient and potential injury contributing movement patterns.

From the baseline movement assessment the pitcher throws a live bullpen while wearing 4D Motion capture sensors that allow for a detailed breakdown of the pitcher’s kinematic sequence. The kinematic sequence is the order in which a pitcher’s body sequentially moves to throw the ball. Identifying an “out of order” sequence can help a pitcher adjust his mechanics to become more efficient and ultimately more effective in location and in the production of velocity.

The third component of the P.I.T.C.H. Lab is the use of Rapsodo analytics to measure the movement qualities of the ball. Rapsodo gives real data in real-time which allows players to make real adjustments to their pitch development and pitch execution.

Purpose of P. I. T. C. H. Lab

Baseball pitching injuries are rampant and are approaching epidemic levels. Identifying the underlying movement dysfunctions is a pivotal component in improving a pitcher’s performance and to decrease the injury potential. Beyond simply identifying faulty movements, a pitcher must be taught and trained how to avoid the faulty movements.

The P.I.T.C.H. Lab was created to give baseball pitchers access to the same type of technologies that are widely popular in today’s game of baseball. Unfortunately some pitchers may be geographically restricted to receiving this type of service or relatively local labs may either be cost prohibitive or not accessible to the general baseball population.

Athletic Training and Conditioning Inc.’s P. I. T. C. H. Lab is unique in that it utilizes a medical model to identify potential injury causing movement patterns. Additionally the P.I.T.C.H. Lab has the capabilities to address these faulty movement patterns to improve a pitcher’s performance on the mound.
